San Ysidro Wedding // Aimee+Hadley

This San Ysidro Ranch Wedding is brought to you by me, your resident narrator of chaotic beauty. We are gathered here (on the internet) to bear witness to the matrimony of two incredibly hot women who are, frankly, way too cool to be slumming it with the likes of me- and yet somehow they hired me anyway. I will be taking this as my personal Nobel Peace Prize for services rendered to love, fashion, and huggable dogs with cake boundary issues.

Let’s give credit where it’s due: Hadley and Aimee are not regular mortals. One quite literally cuts cancer out of human bodies (did I mention she’s also a pilot), and the other helps fling stuff into space at NASA. Meanwhile, I take pretty photos and run a free-range homeschool out of my dining room.

This San Ysidro Ranch Wedding wasn’t just a random pick off the venue buffet. This is the place. Yes, that San Ysidro Ranch — where they got engaged, where they decided to say “I do” to forever under those same mountains and lush gardens and bougainvillea that overachieve at being gorgeous. Apparently romance is not dead and has been thriving in Santa Barbara this whole time without telling the rest of us.

Let’s talk vibes. Black tie, but not stiff, rigid black tie. Both brides wore custom Ralph Lauren, the tailoring so sharp you’d think it also had a surgical residency (ba dum dum). A vintage car waited nearby to serve as both transportation and prop, because sometimes love looks best when leaning seductively against a slice of automotive history.

Champagne did what champagne does: vanished quickly and without a trace. The lobster tails, while harbingers of death for me, were said to be buttery and delicious by those who could get near them without their mortality flashing before their eyes. This was an intimate day of decadence. A San Ysidro Ranch Wedding doesn’t mess around with basic catering.

Cocktail hour: spectacular. Guests radiating joy and high fashion. A live painter captured the scene right there on the lawn, brush strokes turning all the guests immortal. And I would be absolutely remiss to skip the mention of Berkeley the dog, who exercised his legal right to lick the wedding cake whenever no one was watching. Full tongue and totally unapologetic.

A San Ysidro Ranch Wedding is its own character in the story. This venue is obscene in how photogenic it is. The gardens look like somewhere the ancient gods would go to escape the paparazzi.

The sunset here? Diffused by the collective wishful thinking of everyone who ever eloped in California. If there’s a heaven for photographers, it looks like golden hour at this place.

The real MVP of logistics: Rebecca from Imagine Weddings Santa Barbara. The highest compliment I can give: if anything went wrong, we had no idea.

If you know me, you know I’m allergic to fake. I’m not here to create Pinterest propaganda or tell you that a San Ysidro Ranch Wedding will solve the existential dread of being alive in late-stage capitalism. But I will tell you this: witnessing love like theirs is reason enough to keep believing in anything at all.

If you’re planning your own San Ysidro Ranch Wedding, hear me: you deserve a day that feels like luxury without turning into a Broadway musical where you barely recognize yourself in the starring role. You deserve to exist fully in it — not just perform it.

I want you laughing with your guests, eating lobster with your bare hands if you feel like it, kissing your person like the world could end tomorrow. I want you to be messy-beautiful, not mannequin-perfect.

Because one day, when marriage is being marriage — when real life rolls in with its bills and schedules and your partner forgets to switch the laundry for the 18th time — you will need the receipts. The evidence that your love was once so electric it made a whole damn garden lean in to watch.

That’s my job. I make proof. I freeze the moments where love looks undeniable. Where beauty isn’t curated — it’s happening too fast to be planned.

So if you’re dreaming of your own San Ysidro Ranch Wedding, consider this your sign from the universe that you’re allowed to want the good stuff. You’re allowed to want romance that feels like a movie and comfort that feels like home.

You handle the vows. I’ll handle the witness stand.

Bring lobster. Bring couture. Bring the dog who doesn’t give a single shit about cake etiquette. I’ll bring a camera and the ability to see you exactly as you are – fabulously spectacular and a little unhinged.

End of sermon. Go drink some water. Then inquire.

What an awesome San Ysidro Ranch Wedding! I’ve already been married twice (same man) in two unrelated countries but if we were planning a third wedding 12 years later, this would be a cool place to do it!

I’m just reading about this San Ysidro Ranch Wedding because 1. Your photos are always very emotional and dynamic. 2. Her suit and her suit dress are everything I’ve ever wanted in a same sex wedding couple attire. Both in white. Iconic af.
